Avenue des Archiducs

On a small parcel of 8 by 15 meters, a garage in ruins has been replaced by a low-energy family residence combined with a studio for the architect/client.
To guarantee both good thermal inertia and good thermal insulation, a combination of a concrete structure – for the interior walls and floors – and a wooden frame for the external shell was chosen. Interior comfort has not been forgotten, thanks to mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and a design allowing natural light to penetrate profusely into the living areas.
The house, with heating requirements of less than 17 kWh/m².yr, is 70% heated by a gas condensing boiler and 30% by wood. These facilities are complemented by 4 m² of thermal solar collectors and 12 m² of photovoltaic collectors. Six oval plant beds on the first two storeys, covering 24 m² in all, allow for growth of small shrubs and planted façades.
