Emile Bockstael school
The building for the new Emile Bockstael kindergarten consists of a three-storey-high space. The project initiators set the objective of a net energy consumption of 15 kWh/m².yr (Brussels average 106), corresponding to the passive building standard.
To achieve this, great attention has been paid to the shell of the building: perfectly insulated solid wood walls, triple glazing and a green roof. Heat is produced using a heat pump supplemented by a gas condensing boiler.
Hot water is produced using thermal solar panels, while rainwater is recovered where possible. Electricity consumption is optimised with high-efficiency lighting and photovoltaic solar panels.
