Kipshouse

This building has been transformed into two modern flats equipped with facilities such as a bicycle room, a gas condensing boiler and balanced ventilation. In the course of the project and the exterior insulation works, the client has refined his design: the energy performance has been improved from 46 to 30 kWh/m².yr (Brussels average: 150).
To ensure proper comfort, two hot water storage tanks have been provided, both connected to a solar water heater supplied by 5 m2of thermal collectors. As heat rises, the client anticipated problems maintaining a suitable temperature in the lower level of the triplex. He envisaged creating a single large volume over three storeys.
He also used an extractor to pump out the hot air accumulating in the top of the flat and mix it with the cooler air below. In this way he also avoids any potential risk of overheating. An extensive green roof and a rainwater recovery system complete this exemplary residence.
