Launched in March 2011, this project is being developed in the neighbourhood located between the Place Jamblinne de Meux and Boulevard Reyers, around the Avenues de l’Opale, Du Diamant, Emile Max and Lacomblé. The project aims to promote solidarity between present and future residents and help them contribute to environmental protection through small gestures. The project “A hundred and one gestures for one hundred years” (to cover the new century) will centre on raising awareness and improving the neighbourhood. The following themes are being developed: rational energy use, sustainable food, “soft” mobility, highlighting natural heritage, eco-consumption, better waste management and reinforcement of social ties, with the creation of a Local Exchange Trading System (LETS). The Opale Neighbourhood Committee has already been active for several years. For this sustainable neighbourhood project it has concluded, or is in the process of concluding, partnerships with Schaerbeek municipality and various institutions and associations.
