Pinoy

This project was initiated in 2008-2009 by the Neighbourhood Committee of the Pinoy neighbourhood, located around the Place Pinoy. Its principal activities promote rational use of energy and water, sustainable food (an organic food basket group), waste reduction and “soft” mobility. The committee has also set up a “Local Exchange Trading System” (LETS), that is, a system for exchange of products or services alongside the standard monetary system, for a more social and community-based economy. A collective composting site has been developed. It will be combined with a small shed allowing project communications and equipment storage to be centralised. The project managers have held an energy meeting especially for young people (Community Youth Centre) and training in sustainable drainage, and have established a computer database for managing pooling of group purchases and the LETS. The project relies on the participation of residents, shopkeepers and users of the neighbourhood. It also benefits from partnerships with the municipality and numerous local associations.
