Porte de Hal Park

Around the Porte de Hal, a park was progressively created at the request of residents as the infrastructures necessary for this important route of entry into Brussels were developed below ground.

Since January 2003, the ambition has been to transform and adapt this “roadside” green space into a more “rural” park.

The site has the shape of a crescent moon. On the Gare du Midi (South Station) side, its extremity has been laid out as a small square, in the centre of which stands a large circular basin. A second water feature is found at the foot of the structure, to recall the pond that formerly occupied the same spot.Theedifice is surrounded by several old trees that make the transition to the more contemporary areas in the upper portion of the park.

A series of different spaces are found there: lanes lined with benches crossing lawns and small shrubs, an esplanade with a grid of plane trees, a playground, a sport field, etc.

Brussels Environment has planted several dozen trees of various varieties (lindens, poplars, wild cherries, dogwoods, alders, hornbeams, mountain ashes, chestnuts, etc.) in the park, as well as hedges. Various planted beds have also been restored.
