The principal challenge of this project consisted of covering the house with a layer of insulation while taking advantage of its thermal inertia. One of the objectives was also to renovate the ground floor so as to obtain additional space.
The building was made as airtight as possible, but permeable to the diffusion of water vapour. A double flow ventilation system ensures good quality of the renewed air. Heating needs are very limited (15 kWh/m2.yr), and a good part of the domestic hot water needs are covered by thermal solar panels. Special attention has been given to the choice of materials, coming from recovery or chosen as a function of their sustainability.
Rainwater is recovered via a 3m3 cistern and supplies the laundry and the toilet facilities. This project includes another sustainable and ethical aspect: that of a table d’hôte, in order to share the experience of this eco-transformed house.
