Rue du Houblon
This passive duplex residence is located above the passage toward the common areas of the 'Impressions du Centre' site. A hybrid structure has been chosen: a wood frame combined with concrete floors on metal columns.
The remarkable insulation values of the shell result in a very low heating requirement: 15 kWh/m²/yr (Brussels average: 150). A double flow ventilation system for the two housing units guarantees good air quality.
A gas condensing boiler combined with a solar boiler for domestic hot water was chosen for heating. An underground rainwater tank combined with rational water consumption limits the need for municipal water.
At the back of the building, the exterior sun protection consists of 50% transparent sliding panels. Systematic use of ecological materials completes the picture of an exemplary building.
