Rue Locquenghien
This project consists of construction of a passive building intended for the offices of the Sanitation Department of the city of Brussels and 12 flats, as well as “low energy” renovation of a building intended for a nursery school and five residences. The materials used are cellulose, wood fibre, bluestone, and polyethylene pipes.
The heating needs are reduced to 16 kWh/m2.yr, as the shell of the building is highly insulated and carefully made airtight. A well-designed ventilation system with heat exchanger reduces the impact of thermal bridges. Summertime comfort is ensured thanks to passive cooling strategies.
The remaining energy needs are covered by 59.5 m2 of thermal panels. Seventy-five square metres of extensive green roof, acoustic windows, sun protection and “healthy” paints contribute to the well-being of the occupants.
