Rue Loossens
The Jette Foyer wanted this building, composed of two social housing units, to be experimental and innovative. The result: two CO2-neutral duplexes that discharge only 0.5 tonne of CO2/yr.
This passive building has an average insulation U-value of 0.167 W/m²K. The small amount of energy needed for heating - 12 kWh/m²/yr – is supplied by a pellet boiler, while 70 m² of photovoltaic cells supply the electricity needs of the building. The 11 m² of thermal solar panels cover 75% of the domestic hot water needs and a rainwater tank allows consumption of municipal water to be decreased.
Ecological materials have also been chosen for both the wood for construction and interior finishing. Finally, exterior sun protection and the use of night cooling guarantee a pleasant interior climate.
