Rue Nys
Anxious to find a new site on which to establish their architectural agency, Lahon & Partners opted for a site disused for over 10 years. The building is divided into three low-energy residences on the ground floor and an office space on the upper floor, based on the solar passive concept. For the offices, the heating energy requirements are less than 15 kWh/m²/yr, and for the housing, less than 60 kWh/m²/yr.
To achieve this level of performance, various approaches have allowed a “thermos” building to be created with regard to air: thermal insulation of window frames, walls and roof, glazed areas equipped with sunshades, the roof covered with a reflective membrane. A crossflow unit (natural and mechanical ventilation) regulates ventilation of the building, with a weather station on the roof.
It manages the intake of fresh air and evacuation of stale air, but also cools the ambient air according to the night cooling principle. During renovation, the architectural design allowed for savings in grey energy and reduction of environmental impacts.
