Rue Royale-Sainte-Marie
The second owner of this typical Brussels residence decided to convert the 1st and 2nd floor flats into very-low-energy spaces in exemplary fashion, and the 3rd and 4th floor flats into passive spaces.
Airtightness has been achieved with care, per flat. New double glazing with good acoustic insulation has been installed. The materials are for the most part natural: wood fibre panels, cellulose, clay, etc. Assisted by a gas condensing micro-boiler, a heat pump fulfils the heating needs, with a consumption of 26 kWh/m2.yr. Nine square metres of thermal solar panels preheat the entire system.
Ventilation is provided by a double flow mechanical system. The existing rainwater cistern has been recovered in order to supply the sanitary facilities and laundry and to water the garden.
