Rue Stuckens
The challenge to be met in this Brussels row house, typical of the early 20thcentury, was to create the necessary living comfort while keeping the structure and character of the building as much as possible. The street-side façade was not insulated for reasons connected with town-planning and preservation of heritage. The roof was insulated with 14 cm of cellulose.
he forepart and rear façade have a thick layer of insulation. The heating needs of the house are thus reduced to 28 kWh/m2.yr. A gas condensing boiler combined with a solar water heater (4m² of collectors), provide heating and domestic hot water production.
Aeration is provided by a controlled mechanical ventilation system. In a bird’s-eye view, the green roof and 23 m² of photovoltaic panels are striking, but what really draws attention is the folding bicycle ramp at the entrance.
