Rue Ulens
The project concerns the municipal school of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. It involves a new wing adjacent to and adjoining the school in the interior of a block. Four classes of 25 students and a multipurpose hall are set up in the old building.
Reuse of construction waste and choices of ecological materials, such as hemp wool, cellulose, FSC/PEFC wood and wood fibre are planned.
While fulfilling the organisational needs of a school, the project aims to: create a building with low operating costs through a low-energy level of insulation (heating consumption reduced to 39 kWh/m2.yr), rainwater recovery (10 m3 cistern) and total coverage of the electrical needs by 30 m2 of solar photovoltaic panels; promote the comfort of its occupants through the use of ecological materials and natural light, as well as by the development of green spaces (planted areas and an extensive green roof).
