Rue Van De Woestyne
This single-family semidetached house dating from 1967 was a real thermal sieve. It has been completely renovated without changing the design: the entire skin of the building was been insulated (wood fibre plaster insulation on the exterior façade and cellulose combined with a breathable vapour barrier for the sloped roof), while all the doors and window frames have been replaced.
Gas central heating combined with a solar water heater and balanced ventilation ensures comfortable heating and aeration of the residence in the future. As the project has advanced, the client has constantly refined the energy requirements of the building.
Thus, the energy need, initially calculated at 56 kWh/m².yr, has been reduced to only 30 kWh/m².yr (Brussels average: 150). Rainwater is collected for the sanitary facilities, laundry and the exterior maintenance of the house.
