Van Volxem offices
Located in the immediate vicinity of the Gare du Midi, on the former site of the Wielemans-Ceupens breweries, the Van Volxem project aims to reduce the energy consumption of its buildings by half while offering more comfortable working conditions than in standard office buildings.
In order to offer a simple solution that can stand the test of time, the team has turned primarily to architectural methods, but has also added a high-performance technical innovation: a heating and cooling system for the flagstones of the building using the heat capacity of the deep water table. Its energy need should be reduced to 22 kWh/m².yr (Brussels average: 106).
The project should also involve complete refurbishment of the premises, with sustainable materials (terra cotta cladding, certified wood), an extensive green roof, acoustic insulation, an air filtration system, and rooms for waste sorting on each floor.
