Woluwe Park

A major component of the Brussels “green network”, Woluwe Park is also part of the continuous chain of green spaces running along the valley of the Woluwe. It is one of the largest parks in the Brussels urban area.

At the time of the Universal Exposition of 1897, King Leopold II wanted to connect the Cinquantenaire and the royal domain of Tervuren by a new avenue flanked by an immense park attractive to the middle classes. The hills and valleys give it the rural appearance of English gardens, while giving the illusion of blending in with the surrounding nature. Crossed by little roads suitable for motor vehicles and pathways, Woluwe Park also owes its beauty to its four artificial ponds. Three hundred trees, including a giant sequoia almost 7 metres in circumference, appear on the list of remarkable trees in the Brussels-Capital Region.

The ponds and meadows attract birds, indigenous or transient, such as ducks, swans and Egyptian geese. Brussels Environment applies differentiated management here.

The concrete artificial rocks have been restored or are undergoing restoration.
